California’s governor has announced a Global Climate Action Summit, to be held shortly before the 24th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 24). This will be the first time that a US state holds a climate conference with the clear purpose of supporting the Paris Agreement.
Late last month, Poland held its second renewable energy auction, open to solar, wind and hydro power projects. 472 new projects were awarded, with a maximum size of 1 MW per project. As expected, solar received the largest share.
In face of the G20 Summit, which is taking place this weekend in Germany, the British government have admitted that there is still “work to do“ in order to reach the country’s energy goal. At the end of 2016, renewables made 8.9% of Britain’s energy mix, with the goal for the end of 2020 being 15%.
In the Swiss town of Neuchâtel, CSEM have developed a new technology called KALEO which allows for solar panels to be personalized with photographs. The first six panels of this kind can now be admired in the gardens of the Banque Cantonale Neuchâteloise (BCN), a major sponsor of this project.
During a recent congress, German Development Minister Dr. Gerd Müller announced further support for the growth of renewable energies in Africa. He used the congress as a platform to present his new concept of a green civil energy, which is strongly based on investments by communities and cooperatives.
Spain is planning its next tender for renewable energies, which is expected to take place in July. Only photovoltaic and wind power projects will compete in the auction. Just like in the last tender, wind power will probably be awarded a large quantity of the projects again, as the Spanish government leaves the rules for the tender unchanged.
