At the moment, Bahrain is holding its very first solar event, called STEEB. It was used as a platform to announce that the country plans to join the solar market with its new National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP). 700 MW of renewable energy capacity are to be installed by 2030.
The solar industry is relieved by the recent likely decision of the GST council in India to levy only 5% tax on solar panels instead of 18% proposed earlier. This could mean only a marginal rise in solar power projects costs.
2016 was the strongest year ever for renewable energies. The growth of the PV sector consisted of a remarkable 71 GW and exceeded that of wind energy for the first time since 2013.
