The dynamic solar market in Ghana

Ghana is a major energy producer in West Africa. Its oil and gas reserves are high, especially compared to the size of its territory. Several Hydroelectric plants (Dams of Akosombo, Kpong, etc.) and many other smaller built on the rivers of Oti and White Volta produce a great amount of electricity. The large volume generated and the diversity of its energy sources ensure the sustainability of the Ghanaian electricity sector, and therefore the improvement of the supply of energy to the households and to the industry. In light of those facts, why is the solar sector in Ghana promising, and why do many companies develop solar plants in Ghana?

The growing solar market in Egypt

The growing solar market in Egypt

Oil and gas are currently the two most important energy resources in Egypt. Consequently, the main source of energy of the country consists of the transformation of these fossil fuels through thermal power stations, which represents around 94% of electric production in the country (in 2013). The rest is shared between hydroelectric, solar and wind power plants.

The rise of solar power production in Africa

The rise of solar power production in Africa

In which continent is there the biggest desert in the world, five of the six countries with the highest solar irradiance and the warmest area in the world? Obviously, we are talking about Afrika. If we just consider these data, It would seem logical that this continent produces most of the solar energy generated worldwide. In reality however the African production amounts to a mere 1334 MW in 2014. That represents… less than 1% of the global solar production!

California takes next step in energy transition

The California energy transition is moving forward. As the installation of distributed energy resources are being ramped up in many parts of the US, California is the first state to craft new rules that would allow the sale of electricity from distributed sources on the wholesale market.
