In which continent is there the biggest desert in the world, five of the six countries with the highest solar irradiance and the warmest area in the world? Obviously, we are talking about Afrika. If we just consider these data, It would seem logical that this continent produces most of the solar energy generated worldwide. In reality however the African production amounts to a mere 1334 MW in 2014. That represents… less than 1% of the global solar production!
In order to reach its objectives of developing its electricity generation from renewable resources, the Kenyan Energy Ministry has established in 2008 a Feed-in-Tariff policy, subsidising renewables-based electricity production.
